Trustees and Fiscal Officer Biographies
Trustee Brian D. Craig
Brian Craig sought voter approval to serve as a Trustee for Monclova Board November, 2005 and was honored by his constituents to have been elected to this position. Prior to that election, Trustee Craig was an appointed trustee member, selected by his peers to fill a vacancy on the Board. He had previously served his community as a Monclova Township Zoning Commissioner.
As an attorney in a private law practice (Atkinson & Craig, LLC, Holland, Ohio), Trustee Craig brings an expansive viewpoint of law and compromise to his position on the Board of Trustees. His Areas of Practice include: Business Law, Real Estate Law, Estate Planning, and Domestic Relations. He graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Arts, Cum Laude, and received his Juris Doctor from Capital University Law School of Columbus, Ohio.
In addition to his experience as an attorney, Trustee Craig has a wide range of business skill and understanding as former President, CEO, and Founder of Ampersand Trading Co. of Maumee, a promotional grocery wholesaler.
Brian is involved in several organizations, including Maumee United Methodist Church, serving on the Board of Trustees; the Toledo Bar Association; the Ohio Bar Association; and serves as a Board of Trustees member for the Monclova Historical Foundation. This particular organization, with its dedication to preservation, Monclova history, and interest in restoration, is of great interest to Brian, who remodeled and restored his own home.

Trustee Chuck Hoecherl
Elected in 2007, Chuck Hoecherl is the newest Trustee serving Monclova Township. Chuck grew up in Maumee and attended St. Joseph's Elementary and St. John's Jesuit High School. Chuck worked part-time to put himself through college and completed his undergraduate degree from the University of Toledo.
Chuck started his banking career with Toledo Trust and continued his education at UT while working and received his MBA in 1993. After 9 years with Toledo Trust, Chuck worked at Capital Bank in Sylvania. While at Capital, Chuck was involved with the Sylvania Community Improvement Corporation, and was selected for the Board of Trustees at Rescue Mental Health Services on Collingwood Blvd. These board seats provided Chuck much experience dealing with union contracts, multi-million dollar budgets and public infrastructure projects. Chuck has also served on the finance councils at St. Joseph's and St. Patrick of Heatherdowns, 2E Housing Corp, a non-profit student housing provider at the University of Toledo, and is a Boy Scout leader with Troop 252 at St. Patrick's.
Chuck is a member of Brandywine Country Club, Ducks Unlimited, Pi Kappa Alpha and many other organizations. Chuck currently works at First Federal Bank in Maumee and is Vice President of Cash Management services and heads up the eastern region for the bank. It was his “common sense” approach of working with many different types of customers during his banking career that provided Chuck the impetus to run for public office and serve his community.
Chuck has been married to his wife Monique for 17 years and they are the parents of twins, Christian and Rachel. Chuck and his family like to travel and make an annual trip to the ocean. Chuck enjoys family activities, waterfowl hunting, fishing, golf and NASCAR. In his free time, Chuck also likes to read and is a Civil War history buff.

Trustee Gary F. Kuns
Gary was born in Clyde, Ohio (just East of Fremont) and married Mary Helen (Beery) from nearby Bellevue. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Bowling Green State University (1965), Gary pursued and received his Jurist Doctorate degree from the University of Toledo, College of Law, in 1968. He was proud to serve his country from 1968 through 1972 as a Captain in the United States Air Force serving in the Judge Advocates office at Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento, California.
Upon his return from the Air Force, he and Mary Helen and their two children (at that time), Connie and Gary, Jr. located in Monclova Township. Gary began his private law practice in Bowling Green, Ohio where he also worked as an Assistant Wood County Prosecutor. In addition, his family grew with the addition of two daughters, Jennifer and Karen.
In 1983 a group of Monclova Township residents asked Gary to run for Trustee. Gary did so, and for 20 years (1984-2004) he served Monclova Township and created a positive attitude to foster quality development. As a result, the township prospers today.
Gary was most notably involved in defeating the aggressive annexation attempts by Toledo and Maumee in the late 1980s through the early 1990s. These efforts were successful and Monclova Township, as a community and as a local form of government, continues to exist today and will do so for years to come.
In 1990, Gary, together with other local business people, began the Fallen Timbers Fairways project. Fallen Timbers is a public play golf course and quality residential housing development. Fallen Timbers is the only public-play golf course in Monclova Township.
In 2005, Gary returned to office as a Monclova Township Trustee. His return to office was a result of his deep commitment to Monclova Township, and the strong and long-time support of the voters of the township.
Gary lives in his home on River Road with his wife, Mary Helen, enjoying the river, their grandchildren, and their Golden Retriever, Sunny.
